FAQs

Is it too late to join the race?
We’re afraid so. Entries closed on 30th September 2024, but you can join in by being a spectator! Who do you think is going to win?

What are the rules?
See the bottom of this page.

How do you measure how far it’s travelled? Does it matter if someone keeps it for ages and just visits caches with it?
We’re just measuring the whole distance travelled by the trackable. While it would be preferable just to measure the distance between caches that the tags have actually been placed in, this would just be too complicated and time-consuming. We’d rather spend that time making the next issue of PinPoint the best it can possibly be!

So I could just keep it in my pocket, take it on holiday with me and pass it to friends to do the same?
No, because we’ve already stated that you must place it into a cache at the start of the race. If you just keep it in your own inventory then you’re not yet in the race!

But another player could do that and we’d have no control over what they do. We’d very much hope that players would play within the spirit of the game and not keep the cache for too long. However, these things are beyond anyone’s control and we hope that no one loses sleep over them!

Am I allowed to encourage people to grab and move my trackable? Yes, please do! Including clear instructions on your trackable’s mission will help players to know what to do with it. That’s also why we’re asked you to include ‘PP Racer’ at the start of your trackable’s name (and to make it easy for us to search for them!)

What if I find a PP Racer that belongs to another player?
Then we expect you to act within the spirit of the game and treat it just as you would any other trackable: retrieve it if you like, carry it around for a short while and then deposit it in another cache. Anyone who is found to have deliberately sabotaged another PP Racer will be disqualified, but we very much doubt that it will come to that!

How will we know who’s winning and how our own PP Racer is doing?
There are a number of ways you can check.

  • Keep an eye on your PP Racer on its own page. If you’re not sure how to do that just go to your profile and look for the link to ‘Owned Trackables’.
  • We’ll be posting updates at least monthly here on our website.
  • We’ll be sharing these updates on our social media channels: Facebook, Twitter (subsequently known as X) and Instagram.
  • There will be reference to the race in all issues of PinPoint between now and issue 13 next October. However, as we are a quarterly publication, these will always be out of date and so will be general rather than specific. Similarly, we may refer to them in our occasional newsletters, but the main way to receive news will be through our website.

Can I tell people about my PP Racer on my own social media?
Of course, feel free to add your comments and pictures to any of our PinPoint Pursuit posts and, if you can, please use #pinpointpursuit

What if I have a problem with my PP Racer?
Whatever the problem, just get in touch using info@pinpointmag.co.uk We’d much rather try to sort out any issues in private if we can, but do please encourage others and be kind!

The Rules

  • The editors of PinPoint may enter a trackable for fun, but they won’t be eligible for the competition!
