PinPoint Pursuit Update, July 2025

What’s that coming over the hill? Is it the Severn Mega‽ Excitement is mounting here at the PP Pursuit nerve centre, and tension is… tensing? This is the last formal update to our first ever trackable race – the tag with the greatest mileage at the end of the race will be declared the winner on Mega Day itself. The winner will not only take the plaudits, and our very best wishes, but will be presented with a goody bag which will include a geocoin, a PinPoint subscription and other bits and bobs. There will also be a special souvenir for them to post on their profile. Not bad for winning a contest where you have little influence over the result. You’re let loose, a bit like geo-snakes and ladders!

If you want to see the live announcement (and presentation, if the owner of the winning tag is there), then make your way to the PinPoint stall in the marketplace at 12 noon on Mega Day. While you’re there you might want to browse through our stock of back issues, take out a discounted subscription or perhaps buy one as a gift for a friend or loved one – or both if they’re not the same person. You can also look at samples of our PinPoint hoodies and T-shirts, take a selfie with our PinPoint selfie frame, and enter a photo in our now-traditional Mega Photo Competition!

But back to the race. Chevalier remains out in front with over 75,000 miles on the clock in under a year! There’s plenty of action in the following peloton though, with Muzza’s PinPoint Trackable Racer, Joolswools and Tufty all within a few thousand miles of each other, not to mention Pat the Draenog which leaps from fifth place right up to second following its return from Singapore! This also makes it the most travelled trackable this month, with just over 20,000 miles.

There are seven trackables which have travelled over 1,000 miles since our last update, but 23 which did not move at all. Time for them to stand up, brush off and get moving, perhaps? Maybe the weather has been getting to them. Or Brexit. Or something. All entrants have now made at least a small move, and we have reports that just two tags may have gone missing, for now at least. While that must be a disappointment for their owners, that’s a mere 5% of the field missing in action; not a bad performance overall.
As you’re probably tired of us saying, anything could still happen and there’s everything to play for. Hope to see you next month at the UK Severn Mega. Take off, get out! If you spot one of the trackables at the Mega itself, be sure to bring it over to us. No excuse, no excuse.
