PinPoint Pursuit Update, February 2025

Another month rushes by, and our fearsome travellers are speeding their way around the planet like blancmange off a hot frying pan! But there’s been a spanner thrown in the works! The release of a brand new Locationless cache to celebrate geocaching’s silver jubilee was something we couldn’t have foreseen. Despite being ‘locationless’, like all caches it has a base, and this one, obviously, is in Seattle at Geocaching HQ! This means that as a cacher logs it, and their trackables ‘visit’ the cache, they are awarded over 7,000 miles in each direction without having actually been there!
So our Trackable Emergency Crisis Committee held an emergency conference to discuss the matter and has issued the following ruling:

So our Trackable Emergency Crisis Committee held an emergency conference to discuss the matter and has issued the following ruling:

‘Any distance travelled by a PinPoint Pursuit trackable solely between its current point and the ‘Locationless’ cache in Seattle, and the return journey, will be subtracted from its total distance travelled. This will not affect any trackables which have physically travelled to Geocaching HQ. All league tables starting February 2025 will reflect this ruling. Owners are encouraged to delete any logs that their trackable has made in this way to make it easier for those nice people at PinPoint to calculate.’

However, this has not affected the excitement of the race, as Godfrey the Goldfish sneaks up and takes third place and is now a mere 536 miles behind Muzza’s trackable. That’s the distance travelled by an unladen African swallow in just 24 hours! Tufty maintains her overall lead, but can so easily be caught in the remaining five months of this race.

Over 250,000 miles have been travelled now by our intrepid tags, which is around 8.5 laps of the Earth, and they’ve done two of those laps this month alone! So at the halfway point, we still have no clear idea of the eventual winner. LET’S GO RACING!
